OVERVIEW
The Reducetarian Fellowship is designed to foster a more diverse, sustainable, and impactful movement by empowering bright, passionate, and ambitious young advocates and innovators to transform our food system.
This exciting program is for exceptional Atlanta, New York City and Washington DC-area undergraduate and master’s students who are eager to create a more sustainable, healthy, and compassionate world. The one-year experience is designed to equip and encourage students to pursue a career focused on combating animal agriculture. Each fellow attends 30+ in-person seminars and workshops, receives one-on-one mentorship throughout the year, and is eligible for a $5,000 stipend, contingent upon internship placement at a partner organization.
The first component of the Fellowship runs from August to November. The fall curriculum offers students the opportunity to develop a robust understanding of factory farming and its effects on people, animals, and the planet through seminars with scholars and advocates.
The second component of the Fellowship runs from January through May. The spring curriculum similarly offers exposure to leaders in the field, who share their insights on movement strategy and career pathways through interactive workshops. Fellows also spend the spring working on a self-directed project in a community and medium of their choice, aimed at spreading awareness and action on food system reform.
Both the fall and spring semesters also allow students to develop their professional skills and network through instruction from specialized experts, as well as to receive one-on-one mentorship from Fellowship staff.
The final component of the Fellowship runs from June to August, when Fellows put their learning to direct use in a 10-week summer internship at a partner organization. This is an immersive learning experience that gives Fellows first-hand experience with some of the most impactful work in food system reform and innovation.
A central goal of this program is to increase the representation of marginalized groups in the mainstream movement to reform the food system. We thus encourage BIPOC students, LGBTQIA+ students, students with disabilities, students who have been impacted by the criminal legal system, and low-income students to apply, as well as students with reduced access to resources and opportunities for any other reason.
“Being in this fellowship has genuinely exceeded my expectations about what I thought I could learn about reforming the food system, but also how I could feel about it and want to express that through change both on a professional and personal level.”
“I've absolutely loved this Fellowship. It's the most meaningful thing I've done in years. From the incredible sessions to the amazing people like Sofia and my peers, and the powerful Summit, this experience has been truly transformative, and I'm so grateful for it.”
